Create Your Perfect Vision Board for 2022

Jan 8, 2022

Vision boards – many celebrities swear by them but do they actually deliver on everything they promise? Well, yes. It turns out they really could be the powerful tool you are missing!

Neuroscientist Tara Swart, in her book The Source, uses vision boards as her number one tool for creating the life you dream of. It’s not magic, she argues, it’s simply that what you surround yourself with you seek more of. Your brain is programmed to do so. So why not give your brain the inspiration it needs to get you closer to where you want to be?

So, how can you go about creating a vision board for 2022?

Vision boards are simply a collection of images that you select for a particular purpose. It might be that you are creating a vision board for where you would like your life to be in five years-time. Or perhaps you might be harnessing all that new year energy to create a collection of images about how you would like the next twelve months to go.

"Think of a vision board more like visual goal setting."

Creating a vision board is different to a mood board. It’s not simply about collecting a range of images that may or may not be exactly what you are dreaming of for the coming year. Think of a vision board more like visual goal setting. It’s well worth taking your time over your images and curating them carefully to make sure they truly represent what you are seeking in your life over the coming year.

So, how do you get started? Tara Swart recommends digging out some magazines and a pair of scissors and, at first, cutting out any images that strike you. Don’t just think literal when you are selecting your images. Images that create a feeling in you can be very powerful. You might, for example, select an image of a bird in flight to remind you of the sense of freedom you want to cultivate this year.

Once you have a good collection of images, it is time to start curating. Really let your gut lead you here. What are the main images you are drawn to? Held together, do they give a full picture of where you would like to be by the end of 2022? You might find it helpful to group images into areas such as work, relationships, health and so on. Have you covered every area of your life that is important to you?

Once you’ve selected and arranged your images, it’s time to step away. Leave your board for 24 hours and return to it with fresh eyes. Is this really where you want to be? What is missing? What shouldn’t be there? Once you are completely confident in your choices it’s time to dig out the glue and get it all stuck down.

The last step, of course, is finding somewhere to place your vision board. Find somewhere prominent, where you will see it every day. Perhaps place it near your desk next to some positive affirmation cards to really get your day off to a good start. But likewise, your vision board doesn’t have to be out in the open. You could place it behind your wardrobe door if you open this every day. Wherever you put it, just make sure it is regularly seen for your vision board to really work its magic.

So, what’s going to be on your 2022 vision board? Here’s to all your dreams coming true!
